08.08.11Arrangements now available at Art of Sound Music!

Chris O'Hara's arrangements for brass quintet have been recorded by the Synergy Brass Quintet and performed all over the world. Now they are available from Art of Sound Music. There are currently 21 titles available and that is just the tip of the iceberg. At last count my library of arrangements for trumpet with various ensembles, and brass quintet was at 250 and counting! Enjoy and happy music making!

I have just returned from Minneapolis, MN where I gave the world premiere of Robert Bradshaw's "Fantasy No. 7: Dancing Embers" for flugelhorn and piano at the International Trumpet Guild Conference. The performance went very well. Special thanks to the fabulous pianist Rebecca Wilt for joining me for the premiere!

General feedback was very positive. The really good news? Now that the piece has been premiered anyone can play it! So go get it and play it. Its a great piece of music, enjoy!

In an on-going effort to expand the repertoire for trumpet I am very excited to announce that I will have two new works with wind ensemble available for the 2011/12 concert season! Both works were commissioned specifically to be accessible to high school level players.

"Ballad" by R. Christopher Teichler for trumpet and wind ensemble is a beautiful melody with rich harmonies. I have found that this piece also works especially well on cornet! "Ballad" is currently available for performance.

"Dancing Embers" by Robert Bradshaw for flugelhorn and wind ensemble alternates between elegant lines and exciting passages with complex harmonies and rhythms. "Dancing Embers" will be premiered at the 2011 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Minneapolis, MN in May, and will be available for performance on April 1, 2011.

10.26.09IL tour a huge success!

During a week-long tour through the Chicagoland area, Chris O'Hara performed several clinics and concerts. The events began at the Bensenville Public Library with a trumpet and piano recital on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. From there Mr. O'Hara spent the next few days working with students at Fenton High School, York High School, Blackhawk Middle School, the Mohawk, Johnson, and Chippewa Schools. On Tuesday night he joined the students at Fenton HS as a soloist at their Bandarama Concert. During a concert Thursday evening he performed the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with a local chamber orchestra, and then joined the trumpet students of School District 2 in an arrangement of "'Tis the Last Rose of Summer" specially made by Mr. O'Hara for the event. Mr. O'Hara grew up in the Chicago suburbs and regularly adds these schools to his performance schedule to help give back to the community that helped give him his start in music.
